Mira Vista United Church of Christ

welcome, traveller...

Welcome to Mira Vista United Church of Christ, home to progressive spiritual seekers in the San Francisco Bay Area. Worship services are at 12 noon in El Cerrito, California, just across the Bay from San Francisco, north of Berkeley.

Come and see our vibrant, inclusive community: we foster spiritual growth with open-handed creativity, questioning, listening, laughing, singing, and healing.

Has church has turned you off with oppressive theology, clannishness, or hierarchical thinking? Find relief and liberation here; we support your recovery.

Whoever you are, wherever you are on your journey, you are invited and welcome. We are an Open and Affirming congregation, with an open door, an open Book, open arms, open minds, and open hearts.

In the United Church of Christ we say "God is still speaking, " meaning that God is active in our lives and in our hearts, right now. Seekers have been following the Jesus Way for 2,000 years: today's travellers blend all that is new and exciting with the Church's oldest traditions.

NEW ORLEANS, 2009. Our New Orleans workers were part of an ecumenical "housing blitz" May 4-8 in the Little Woods neighborhood of eastern New Orleans. Thirteen families were returned to their homes! See their photos and read their journal entries here.

MARRIAGE EQUALITY: The CA Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8, which prohibits legal marraige for same-gender couples. Mira Vista submitted part of one of the legal briefs. (See "What's Happening," and then "Away" for more information.)

Our minister, the Rev. Susan Meeter, has named her blog "no more a stranger." Having dwelt in 29 homes in seven states, she now sings with Isaac Watts: "no more a stranger nor a guest, but like a child at home." Just as the God of the Hebrews traveled with them in a tent, the Holy One moves in us as we walk the walk. We are a people on the move, and a people at home.

We hope that you will join us on the journey. Come on by!
